Dishoom Pop-up
London Southbank
Jugaad is hindi for ‘making do’ or ‘reusing’ or ‘creative improvisation’
A bar made out of recycled plastic bottles, piled up street junk, and constructed a wall from tightly rolled newspapers. Most of the materials for the restaurant were either recycled, found or purchased secondhand and then reinvented to create a colourful, welcoming and exciting atmosphere. We even re-purposed a fishing boat that was used for selling coconuts. These are just a sample of the quirky innovative treatment that made this project totally unique, winning a nomination for The Restaurant Bar Design Awards.
Bravas Tapas
St Katherine Dock
An eclectic hacienda-style, warm and rustic interior featuring antiquated architectural details, reclaimed islamic and Parisian louvre shutter doors and gothic church windows. A long bar where diners can sit and enjoy a selection of tapas and a sherry dates back to the 1800s and was salvaged from a Welsh church, whilst the bar stools are former tractor seats, with cushions made from grain sacks.
Rambla
St Katherine Dock
The interior is inspired by Barcelona’s elegant-but-casual beachfront restaurants offering a laid back atmosphere designed to let the food do the talking. The open kitchen takes center stage, the wrap around bar top was created by hand using a selection of hard woods such as maple, cherry and oak which we joined. The bar facade is metro tiles in a herringbone design on a floor constructed from reclaimed scaffolding boards. The walls are venetian plaster, chairs reclaimed for an old church are upholstered with calico linen creating a warm and authentic, understated and utilitarian aesthetic.
Wolfe
Notting Hill
Wolfe in Notting Hill for restauranteur and chef Wolfe Conyngham - A comfortable, slightly whimsical neighbourhood restaurant. Wolfe was built almost entirely from reclaimed materials. Cast iron arch industrial window frames were used to make the backbar, the bar itself, an vintage, oak carpenters workbench. Exposed plaster and oil based scumble glazed walls, the dumb waiter door framed with reclaimed barn gate posts and an old door. Zinc table tops and antique louvre cupboard doors create a harmonious, ensemble oozing rustic charm. “Layers of detail in the interior design on both floors indicate a labour of love and on the ground floor there is a view to a verdant garden. Truly comfortable upholstered chairs issue a welcome challenge to the cultural hegemony of bare-filament light bulbs”.
Fay Maschler
Pergola
Paddington
A vibrant West London garden and rooftop with two bars and four restaurants offering alfresco dining. Each element of the restaurant pillars, ceiling, archways and outdoor spaces were brought into a consistent theme which evolved through the premises. An oasis in the heart of the City offering escapism from the busy work life of London, the white washed walls, foliage and decking create the vision of a picturesque hidden treasure designed to host large groups, corporate events and private functions.
Farmopolis
Grenwhich Penisula
The Jetty on Greenwich Peninsula was transformed into a floating garden and cultural space, hosting tens of thousands of plants and tonnes of landscaping materials no longer needed by exhibitors at the end of RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The project included a café, restaurant, bar and a performance space.
